Follow the Money: Pennsylvania's four battleground House races, by the numbers
This is the first in a weekly True News series following the money in the 2026 election, through Election Day on November 3. Every figure comes from reports the campaigns file with the Federal Election Commission. True News has no political affiliation and endorses no party or candidate.
Four of Pennsylvania's U.S. House races are expected to be among the closest in the country: the 1st, 7th, 8th and 10th districts. Together, the eight major-party nominees in those races raised $36.9 million through June 30, the end of the latest period every campaign has reported.
The races, by the numbers
1st District (Bucks County and part of Montgomery County): Republican Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick raised $6,734,931 and spent $4,801,927, and had $6,355,534 in cash on hand. Democrat Bob Harvie, a Bucks County commissioner, raised $2,007,499, spent $1,212,578 and had $794,921 on hand.
7th District (the Lehigh Valley): Republican Rep. Ryan Mackenzie raised $4,357,405, spent $1,521,928 and had $2,938,717 on hand. Democrat Bob Brooks, a former firefighter and union president, raised $2,392,215, spent $1,373,792 and had $1,018,423 on hand.
8th District (Scranton, Wilkes-Barre and the northeast): Republican Rep. Rob Bresnahan raised $5,234,586, spent $2,679,690 and had $2,608,048 on hand. Democrat Paige Cognetti, the mayor of Scranton, raised $4,609,589, spent $1,202,879 and had $3,406,710 on hand.
10th District (Harrisburg and York): Republican Rep. Scott Perry raised $5,194,925, spent $2,430,869 and had $2,845,976 on hand. Democrat Janelle Stelson raised $6,364,069, spent $1,900,667 and had $4,478,639 on hand.
What stands out
In the 10th District, the challenger has raised more than the incumbent: Stelson out-raised Perry by about $1.2 million and had about $1.6 million more in the bank. In the 8th, Bresnahan raised more, but Cognetti had about $800,000 more cash on hand at the end of June.
Where the money came from differs by side. Each of the four Democratic challengers raised more than three-quarters of their money from individual donors: 87 percent for Harvie, 84 percent for Cognetti, 81 percent for Brooks and 77 percent for Stelson. The Republican incumbents drew more from political action committees, as incumbents of both parties commonly do. PACs gave Fitzpatrick $2,233,727, about a third of what he raised, and gave Bresnahan $1,378,927 and Mackenzie $1,042,913, about a quarter of their totals. Perry received $650,127 from PACs, about 13 percent, and raised 60 percent of his money from individuals. The rest came from other receipts, such as transfers from joint fundraising committees.
Fitzpatrick's cash on hand is higher than what he raised minus what he spent because it includes money carried over from his earlier campaigns.
Two campaigns reported debts: Bresnahan's campaign reported $777,068 and Perry's reported $335,158. Bresnahan also reported $55,536 in contributions and loans from himself.
What these numbers don't show
These figures cover only the candidates' own campaign committees. Spending by super PACs, party committees and other outside groups, which in close House races can match or exceed what the candidates spend, is reported separately and is not included here.
The numbers are also more than three months old. Campaigns file their next quarterly reports by October 15, covering through September 30, and a final pre-election report by October 22, covering through October 14. True News will update these races when those reports come in.
