Student contributor program
Write for True News while you're in school
College and university journalists can publish real, edited news with their own byline, build a public portfolio for their résumé, and compete for best article of the week, month and year.
What you get
- A published byline. Every article is read and edited by a human editor before it goes live.
- Your own profile page listing your published articles, how many people read them and any awards you win. Share the link with employers and graduate schools.
- Awards for the best contributor article of the week, the month and the year. See the current standings.
How it works
- Sign up below. The editor reviews your sign-up and emails you a private contributor code.
- Report a story: local news, your officials, your community or something uplifting.
- Submit it with your contributor code so it is credited to you.
- The editor reviews it, may ask for changes or sources, and publishes it under your byline.
How the awards work
- Every contributor article competes in the week, month and year it was published.
- Its score is the number of reader visits in its first 7 days, counted once per reader per day. An article published on a Sunday has the same chance as one published on a Monday.
- Automated traffic is not counted, and the editor can disqualify an article if its views look manipulated.
- Winners are named on the awards page and on their profile, and win:
- Article of the week: a featured mention on True News
- Article of the month: a $25–$50 gift card
- Article of the year: a prize from a sponsor, when one is confirmed
Our standards
True News has no political affiliation. Report facts, keep opinion and endorsements out, and cite sources for anything about officials or governments. Articles must be your own original work, written in English.
