VA releases video on transition to Federal Electronic Health Record
The Department of Veterans Affairs has released a video in which three Veterans Health Administration leaders discuss the department's move to the Federal Electronic Health Record (EHR), according to an Oct. 13 VA News article.
The VA said the transition to the Federal EHR is producing safer and more efficient patient care for veterans.
In the video, VISN 4 Network Director Fernando Rivera recalls the earlier shift from paper records to electronic record keeping. According to the VA, Rivera said patient safety was the main concern among clinicians then and remains so now. "This transition to a more modern record—a better integrated record, one that streamlines processes—makes us more efficient from the perspective of the patient; but most important, ensures safe patient care," Rivera said.
Armenthis Lester, chief communications manager for Health Service Area 5.2/5.5, said the change shows the VA "is always evolving to meet the needs of our ever-evolving patient population."
Rachel Wendel, director of change management for the Electronic Health Record Modernization Integration Office, described the Federal EHR as a "once-in-a-lifetime transformation" for VA health care sites and staff. The VA said she called it an investment that will return dividends for years to come.
The video is titled "The Federal EHR: Real Stories. Real Impact."
