Trump says he has offered White House press secretary job to UFC chief Dana White
President Donald Trump said Saturday that he has offered the post of White House press secretary to Dana White, the head of the UFC and a longtime friend, though it was not clear whether the offer was serious or whether White had accepted.
Trump announced the offer in a Truth Social post while at his golf club in Florida, according to the Associated Press, as published by LAist and the Anchorage Daily News. In the post, Trump called White "a violent Fighter and Warrior" and wrote, "We need these people to defend us against the Lunatic Left."
The outlets described the offer's scope somewhat differently. The AP reported that Trump asked White to bring several UFC fighters along as assistants. Gray News, in a report carried by WCAX and Live 5 News, said Trump extended the offer to White's assistants and quoted the president noting that some of them are not from the United States.
White responded on Instagram by sharing a picture of himself behind the lectern in the White House briefing room, captioned "On to the next chapter," according to both outlets. Gray News said it was unclear whether that meant White was taking the job or simply playing along. The AP reported that White was in London on Saturday for a boxing event, that the White House did not answer questions about the post, and that a UFC spokesperson did not immediately respond.
The press secretary job has been unsettled for months. The AP reported it had been empty since Karoline Leavitt departed at the end of August, until Katie Zacharia took the role and left after five days following a single briefing. Gray News placed her departure in October and said Trump told reporters he had suggested she quit after that briefing.
The offer came a day after Trump announced that Stephen Miller would succeed Susie Wiles as chief of staff. Gray News described Miller as deputy chief of staff, while the AP called him an aide and said he is known for shaping the administration's strict immigration policies.
According to the AP, the staff changes come as the White House deals with the fallout from Tuesday's midterm elections, in which Democrats won seats in areas long held by Republicans and the GOP lost control of both the House and the Senate.
The AP also noted the close relationship between the two men. Trump has attended several UFC events with White since returning to office in January 2025, and in June he hosted a UFC event on the White House South Lawn tied to the nation's 250th anniversary and his own 80th birthday. White spoke at the Republican National Conventions in 2016, 2020 and 2024, the AP reported.
