Scholarship offers Veterans up to $10,000 a year to pursue K-12 education careers
Veterans pursuing careers in K-12 education can apply for renewable scholarships of up to $10,000 a year, according to a post on VA News, the Department of Veterans Affairs news site. The post, written by a Scholarship America program marketing manager, describes the Scholarship America Veteran Scholarship for Educators.
According to the post, awards may be renewed for up to four additional years or until a recipient earns a bachelor's or master's degree, whichever comes first. Recipients of the maximum award could receive up to $50,000 over five years, subject to renewal requirements. Funding is also available for state-approved alternative pathways to teaching certification. Award amounts vary by program and enrollment status.
To be eligible, Veterans must be pursuing a degree or state-approved certificate to become a teacher, school-based counselor, psychologist or social worker in the K-12 school system. Additional requirements apply. Applications are due by 3 p.m. Central on Dec. 14, 2026, and applicants will be notified of results in February 2027.
The post cites Learning Policy Institute research finding that about 1 in 8 teaching positions nationally are unfilled or filled by teachers without full certification for their assignments. The VA said sharing non-VA information does not constitute an endorsement and advised Veterans to verify details with the organization offering the program.
