VA Releases 2026 Veterans Day Teachers Resource Guide
The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and the Veterans Day National Committee have released the 2026 Veterans Day Teachers Resource Guide, the department announced on November 2, 2026.
According to the VA, the annual guide is meant to help educators, youth leaders and community organizations teach the history and significance of Veterans Day. The department said this year's edition is tied to the nation's ongoing commemoration of its 250th anniversary and focuses on the values of service, sacrifice and citizenship.
The VA said the guide explains the origins of Veterans Day and why it is observed on November 11. It also includes age-appropriate lesson plans, writing prompts, art projects, interviews with veterans and service-learning activities. The guide lists student scholarship opportunities, offers tips for organizing assemblies and recognition ceremonies, and covers flag etiquette.
According to the department, the guide is intended for schools as well as youth-serving organizations, libraries and community centers. The VA said it encourages state education departments, school districts, Department of War Education Activity programs and community partners to share the guide.
The guide is available online at department.va.gov (link). The VA said the 2027 edition will be posted at the same location next year.
