Five adults died in what authorities are describing as an apparent murder-suicide at a house in Douglas, Georgia, late Friday night, according to a WALB report distributed by Gray News and carried by KCRG, WCAX, KWCH 12 and Valley News Live.

Douglas Police Chief Brandon Pruitt said city officers and Coffee County sheriff's deputies were sent to a home on Robin Lane, in the Touchton Woods neighborhood, at about 11:09 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 9, after a report of an active shooter, the outlets reported.

The call to emergency services came from one of the people who was later found dead, according to the report.

When officers arrived, they found four adults dead inside the house, Pruitt said. A fifth adult was taken to a hospital and died there, the outlets reported.

Investigators believe all five people were members of the same immediate family and shared the residence, according to the Gray News report. Police have not made public the names of those who died, and they have not said which person is believed to have carried out the shooting.

The bodies are to be sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation's crime lab, where autopsies will be performed, the outlets reported.

Police said they have seen nothing suggesting a continuing danger to the public, according to the report.

Authorities have not released information about a possible motive, the type of weapon involved, or the ages of those who died. Officials said the investigation remains active and that no additional details were available at the time of the report.

All four outlets published the same account, which originated with WALB, a Gray Media station serving southwest Georgia. Douglas is the seat of Coffee County in the southern part of the state.

True News will update this story as officials release more information.
