A 4-year-old boy died Saturday night after he was found in a backyard swimming pool in Phoenix, according to a report from AZFamily and Gray News carried by several stations, including 1011 Now, Cleveland 19, WBTV and WKYT.

Emergency crews were sent shortly before 10 p.m. to an area near 67th Avenue and Baseline Road after a report that a child was drowning, the outlets reported.

By the time first responders reached the home, the boy had already been taken out of the water, according to the Phoenix Fire Department as cited in the report. Fire officials said he was unconscious and was not breathing when crews arrived.

Relatives told police they did not know how long the child had been under the water, the outlets reported.

Firefighters gave the boy CPR at the scene and then transported him to a hospital, where he was listed in critical condition, according to the report. He died later that night.

Firefighters also said the residence did not have a fence around the pool, according to the outlets.

The report did not identify the boy or the hospital where he was taken. It also did not say how the child reached the pool, who was present at the time, or whether police were investigating further.

All four outlets published the same account, which originated with AZFamily, the Phoenix news operation of KTVK and KPHO, and was distributed through Gray News. No outlet reported details that differed from the others.

No further information about the circumstances of the incident had been released by authorities, based on the reporting available.
