A Honduras-based Chinese national was sentenced Thursday to 12 years in federal prison for conspiring to import cocaine into the United States, conspiring to launder drug proceeds and providing material support to a designated foreign terrorist organization, the Justice Department said.

Wenshen Xu, 52, was also sentenced to five years of supervised release and a $22 million money judgment, according to the department. The organization named in the case is the Cartel de Jalisco Nueva Generacion (CJNG).

According to court documents cited by the department, Xu used a transportation network in Latin America, including access to airstrips, airports, armored cars and couriers, to move multi-kilogram loads of cocaine into the United States. The department said that from around November 2023 until his arrest, Xu and co-conspirators imported more than 450 kilograms of cocaine and coordinated the laundering of more than $22 million from cocaine and fentanyl sales, using methods that included cryptocurrency transfers, trade-based money laundering and encrypted communications.

Xu was arrested in Guatemala at the request of the United States on July 17, 2025, after agreeing to arrange the transport of cocaine out of Cali, Colombia, for a person who claimed to represent the CJNG, the department said. He was extradited to the United States on Jan. 30.

The Drug Enforcement Administration investigated the case, which was prosecuted in the Eastern District of Virginia as part of the Homeland Security Task Force initiative.
