CFTC and Kansas State University Co-Host 2026 Agricultural Futures Conference
The Commodity Futures Trading Commission and the Risk Management Center at Kansas State University co-hosted the 2026 Agricultural Commodity Futures Conference (AgCon) in Overland Park, Kansas, last week, the CFTC said in an October 27 release.
According to the agency, the two-day conference brought together industry leaders, policymakers and market participants to discuss issues facing the agricultural economy, developments in derivatives markets and risk management tools used by farmers, ranchers and agribusinesses.
CFTC Chairman Michael S. Selig said in his remarks that he had met this year with farmers, ranchers, agribusinesses and energy producers in Iowa, Texas, Nebraska, South Carolina and Florida.
The CFTC said panels covered the relationship between cash and derivatives markets, hedging tools, agricultural credit, rising production costs, commodity prices and supply chain disruptions. Participants also discussed perpetual futures, 24/7 trading, tokenized collateral, agricultural prediction markets, event contracts and the implications of emerging technologies for market integrity.
Speakers included U.S. Department of Agriculture Deputy Secretary Stephen Vaden and U.S. Senator Roger Marshall of Kansas, who gave keynote addresses, and White House Council of Economic Advisers Member Aaron Hedlund. Selig also took part in a fireside chat with Futures Industry Association President and CEO Walt Lukken on the commission's priorities and the regulatory landscape, and delivered closing remarks, the agency said.
