The Commodity Futures Trading Commission and the National Basketball Association have signed a Memorandum of Understanding intended to protect the integrity of professional basketball in prediction markets, the CFTC said in a release dated October 26, 2026.

Under the agreement, the CFTC and the NBA will share information by regularly communicating and discussing matters related to integrity, according to the agency. The release said the arrangement is also aimed at maintaining fair and transparent prediction markets.

CFTC Chairman Michael S. Selig said the agreement continues the commission's commitment to increasing data sharing between the agency and professional sports leagues.

According to the CFTC, the NBA joins Major League Baseball and the National Hockey League, which have entered similar arrangements with the agency. Selig described the step as aimed at protecting sports integrity and market participants from abuses in prediction markets, citing insider trading and fraud as examples.

Selig also thanked NBA Commissioner Adam Silver for working with the CFTC on the memorandum, the release said.

The agency did not provide further details on the specific terms of the agreement in the release. It noted that the text of the MOU has been made available as a related document.
