Several attackers armed with a baseball bat beat a man and took roughly $30,000 in cash from him early Sunday in Philadelphia, police said, according to reports from three local news outlets.

The attack happened on the 5000 block of North 6th Street. CBS Philadelphia identified the neighborhood as Olney, while FOX 29 and NBC10 referred to the area more broadly as North Philadelphia.

The outlets gave slightly different times for the incident. CBS Philadelphia reported that officers got the call at about 2:15 a.m., whereas FOX 29 and NBC10 each said it came in near 2:17 a.m.

Responding officers located the man with head injuries, all three outlets reported. NBC10 noted that the wounds were visible.

Police told the outlets that the man had attended an event in North Philadelphia and was heading back to his residence when a group of people he did not know came up to him and struck him with the bat.

The attackers grabbed a bag with the money inside before getting away, according to police. NBC10 said investigators did not know which way the group went. CBS Philadelphia put the sum at about $30,000, while the other two outlets gave the figure as $30,000.

FOX 29 said the man's condition had not been made public. None of the outlets said what kind of event he had attended or why he was carrying so much cash.

No arrests had been reported as of the outlets' coverage. FOX 29 said police were seeking multiple suspects who were still at large, and it credited the Philadelphia Police Department as the source of its information.

No descriptions of the people involved were included in any of the three reports.

Police said the investigation is continuing, the outlets reported.
