Frosty Sunday morning gives way to sunshine, with 70s ahead for Philadelphia region
Frost and temperatures in the 30s greeted the Philadelphia region on Sunday morning, but forecasters are calling for a sunny, dry run of weather that pushes highs back into the 70s for much of the week.
NBC10 Philadelphia reported that a strong area of high pressure is in control, bringing abundant sun on Sunday and afternoon highs mostly in the mid to upper 60s, a bit warmer than Saturday. CBS Philadelphia said parts of South Jersey in particular could start the day near or under the freezing mark, and that winds would remain light.
Both stations expect Sunday night to be cold and clear. NBC10 said readings would dip into the 30s again, and CBS Philadelphia said patches of frost could form by Monday morning.
Along the shore, CBS Philadelphia reported that worries about coastal flooding are fading. The station said minor tidal flooding remained possible in a handful of back-bay locations.
Rain is not in the near-term picture. NBC10 said it sees no indication of wet weather coming soon, and CBS Philadelphia said it does not anticipate any major storm before Friday at the earliest.
The stations agree on a warming trend, though their figures vary slightly. NBC10 predicted low 70s along the I-95 corridor Monday, upper 60s Tuesday and Wednesday, then 70s through the end of the week and into Halloween. CBS Philadelphia called for a high of 67 and a low of 45 Wednesday under partly cloudy skies, 72 and 48 Thursday with sun and some clouds, and 74 and 49 Saturday with partial cloud cover. CBS Philadelphia added that early mornings will keep a crisp feel even as afternoons turn milder.
CBS Philadelphia also said the weather should cooperate for Monday night's Eagles-Cowboys game, with mostly clear skies and a full moon. The station expects temperatures near the low 60s when the game begins, cooling to around the mid-50s by the final whistle.
The stretch of fair weather comes during fall foliage season. According to CBS Philadelphia, the Lehigh Valley and the Poconos are now at their most colorful, while trees elsewhere in the area show moderate color and are nearing their high point.
