TAPS survey seeks input from suicide loss survivors before Oct. 31 deadline
The Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS) is inviting adults who have lost a loved one to suicide to take part in its National Suicide Survivor Survey, which closes Oct. 31, 2026, according to an article published on the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs' VA News site.
TAPS, the Navy SEAL Foundation and the University of Memphis developed the survey through a research collaboration, the article said. It asks survivors what they observed before their loved one's death, what support they received afterward, what challenges they faced and which resources helped them.
According to the article, the findings will be used to develop survivor-informed recommendations. These will cover outreach to bereaved families, access to care, gaps in existing support systems and suicide postvention, which is support provided after a suicide death. TAPS said the results could inform how military, Veteran, healthcare and community organizations respond to suicide loss.
The survey is open to adults 18 and older and takes about 12 to 25 minutes, the article said. Every question is optional. TAPS has supported families grieving the death of a service member or Veteran for more than 30 years. It said it welcomes perspectives whether a loss occurred two years or decades ago. More information is available at taps.org/nslss_2026.
The article also listed the Veterans Crisis Line: call 988 and press 1, or text 838255.
