A car drove past closure signs and into a large hole at a road construction site in Philadelphia's West Oak Lane neighborhood over the weekend, according to reports from NBC10 and 6abc.

The site sits near 21st and Laveer streets, beside Imhotep Charter High School, 6abc reported. NBC10 said the area had been closed to traffic.

Surveillance footage captured the incident. NBC10 said the overnight Saturday video was shared by Yusuf Tribble and shows the vehicle passing a road closed sign, entering the work zone, attempting a turn and then going into the hole. 6abc described the driver continuing past traffic cones and a warning sign before the car dropped in.

When 6abc crews reached the scene, the car's airbags had deployed and the driver's side door was open. Officials told the station the driver left the scene.

It remains unclear whether anyone was hurt. Both outlets said they had contacted police, and neither had received information on injuries at the time of their reports.

NBC10's drone footage from Sunday, Oct. 18, showed a red barrier surrounding the full perimeter of the hole, along with additional construction signs. 6abc reported that the barricade at the site was repaired after the crash.

The Philadelphia Water Department plans to remove the car on Monday so work can continue, according to 6abc. The station said the project is expected to be finished by summer 2027.

Neighbor Nell Roby told 6abc that construction signs at the intersection have been in place for months. "People need to realize that when you see these areas being worked on, to take it serious," Roby said.
