Woman charged with homicide in stabbing deaths of husband and 3-year-old son at Pennsylvania Great Wolf Lodge
A 27-year-old woman faces two counts of criminal homicide after her husband and their 3-year-old son were found stabbed to death in a hotel room at the Great Wolf Lodge resort in Scotrun, Pennsylvania, according to a Gray News report carried by Dakota News Now, Cleveland 19, WOWT and KFYR.
The Monroe County District Attorney's Office charged Metallica Rose Harrison in the deaths of her husband, Charles Harrison, and the couple's son, Gray News reported. The child has not been publicly identified.
Authorities learned of the incident at about 3 p.m. Monday, according to the report. Investigators said Harrison called 911 and was suicidal at the time. Police located her at the resort with cuts to her wrists and neck, then found her husband with multiple stab wounds to the chest. The boy had one stab wound through the chest, the report said.
A criminal complaint cited by Gray News states that two knives, one of them a large kitchen butcher knife, were recovered from the bathroom. The knives had teal handles, and resort staff confirmed they were not the lodge's property, according to the complaint and Philadelphia station WPVI.
Harrison was taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries described as self-inflicted and remains in police custody, according to the report.
Relatives of Harrison told WPVI that she had not wanted to become pregnant and that she resented her son because his arrival cut into the time she spent alone with her husband, Gray News reported. Those statements come from family members and have not been tested in court.
The family had been staying at the resort for several weeks. According to the report, they checked in on Sept. 21 and on Oct. 5 extended their reservation, setting a checkout date of Oct. 13.
The Monroe County district attorney described the case as the beginning of what is expected to be a lengthy investigation, according to Gray News. Investigators said they are still going through a large amount of evidence collected at the scene, and autopsies are scheduled for later this week.
Harrison is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court. The reports did not indicate whether she has an attorney or when she is scheduled to appear before a judge.
