Man dies, two injured in fire at Bensalem apartment complex

A man died and two other people were hurt in a fire Saturday evening at an apartment complex in Bensalem Township, Bucks County, according to police accounts reported by 6abc Action News, CBS Philadelphia and NBC10 Philadelphia.

The fire started in a second-floor unit at the Primavera Square Apartments on Station Avenue, police said. NBC10 gave the address as 717 Station Avenue and the date as Saturday, Oct. 17. CBS Philadelphia reported that the fire was reported at about 6:15 p.m.

Police said the man was found dead inside an apartment, NBC10 reported. He had not been publicly identified. The two people who were injured were taken to a hospital with injuries that police described as not life-threatening, according to all three outlets.

NBC10 reported that the Bensalem Volunteer Fire Department responded and put out the flames. Six apartments were damaged, police said. CBS Philadelphia reported that Bensalem Fire Rescue and police are investigating what caused the fire. The outlets agreed that the cause had not been determined.

Police said residents did not need help from the American Red Cross, according to 6abc and NBC10, because those affected were able to go back to their apartments or had found other places to stay.

6abc spoke with Anthony Ferrante, who lives at the complex and said the man who died was his neighbor and friend. Ferrante told the station he was walking his dog when he heard alarms sounding around 6:15 p.m. He said he did not think much of it at first, went to a nearby Wawa, and returned to find the building on fire.

A resident's video shared with 6abc showed smoke coming from windows and doors at the complex.

"He was just a really good person. It hurts. He was my neighbor. A friend," Ferrante told 6abc.

Ferrante also praised the firefighters who responded, saying they moved quickly into the burning unit. "I have a lot of respect for them," he told the station.

He described the complex as a close community and said he would be praying for the man's family and for the people who were injured, 6abc reported.

Authorities had not released further details about the victim or the origin of the fire as of the reports.
