VA News highlights free AI resume tool to help veterans translate military experience
A free online tool from Hiring Our Heroes called Resume Engine uses artificial intelligence and optional human review to help veterans turn military experience into civilian resumes, according to an October 15, 2026 article on the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs' VA News site. The article was written by Brooke Prouty, Hiring Our Heroes' vice president of digital, technology and communications.
According to the article, military job titles, acronyms and terminology do not always match civilian job descriptions. Resume Engine is meant to address that gap. Users enter their military service, education, civilian work history, skills, certifications and career goals, or upload an existing resume. The platform then generates content that users can review, edit and approve.
The article said users can create several versions of a resume to fit different jobs. They can also request a free review from a human resume expert. Users can download finished resumes and may choose to make their profiles visible to employers that search Hiring Our Heroes' talent platform for military-connected candidates. Profiles can be updated at any time.
The VA page includes a statement that mentioning a specific commercial product or service does not necessarily mean the U.S. government endorses it.
