More than 112,000 bottles of extra strength acetaminophen sold through Amazon have been pulled from the market, according to a CNN report carried by several local stations, including WIS, Cleveland 19, Live 5 News and Dakota News Now.

The recalled product consists of 500-milligram caplets sold under Amazon's own private label, CNN reported. The medication itself is manufactured by Aurobindo Pharma, a drug company that produces the pills for Amazon to sell under its brand.

The recall stems from complaints from consumers who said some of the caplets appeared discolored, according to the report. CNN noted that it has not been established whether there is any actual defect in the pills beyond the reported change in color.

The Food and Drug Administration has not yet given the recall a health risk classification, CNN reported. The agency typically assigns such a rating to indicate how serious a recalled product's potential hazard may be, and the absence of one means the level of risk, if any, has not been formally determined.

Acetaminophen is a widely used over-the-counter pain reliever. In the United States it is commonly associated with the brand name Tylenol, while in most other countries it is known as paracetamol, the report said.

People who bought the affected product are being asked to reach out to Amazon's customer service department to arrange a remedy, according to CNN. The report did not describe what form that remedy would take, such as a refund or replacement.

The report also did not specify the time period during which the recalled bottles were sold, any lot numbers involved, or whether any illnesses or injuries have been linked to the discolored caplets. Consumers who are unsure whether their bottles are affected can contact Amazon directly for more information.
