Wind generation in New England grid up about 68% so far in 2026, EIA says
Monthly wind generation in the ISO New England (ISO-NE) grid region averaged 68% higher in the first nine months of 2026 than in the same period of 2025, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA).
The EIA said monthly wind generation peaked in September 2026 at 668.9 gigawatthours (GWh). That was more than double the September 2025 level and nearly 10% above this year's previous monthly high, set in March.
According to the agency, the increase comes from growing wind capacity in the region. Regional wind capacity has risen 47% so far in 2026 to 2.5 gigawatts, following a 12% increase in 2025, the EIA said.
Daily wind generation reached a high of about 47.3 GWh on October 6, 2026, the agency said. That was 1% above the previous daily peak, recorded on September 10, 2026.
Total wind generation in ISO-NE for the first nine months of 2026 was 4,619 GWh, according to the EIA. That is 1.9% more than the region's total for all of 2025, which was 4,533 GWh.
The EIA said the figures are based on data from its Form EIA-930 and its Hourly Electric Grid Monitor. The analysis was published October 14, 2026.
