Massachusetts Man Pleads Guilty to Money Laundering Conspiracy Tied to $6 Million Medicare Fraud Scheme
A Falmouth, Massachusetts, man pleaded guilty on Oct. 13 to one count of money laundering conspiracy connected to a more than $6 million health care fraud scheme, the Justice Department said.
According to the department, Leo Anzivino Jr., 35, agreed to serve as the straw owner of Advanced Medical Supply Corp. in Rochester, New Hampshire, while co-conspirators were the actual owners and managers. The department said the company submitted more than $6 million in claims to Medicare for durable medical equipment, such as knee and back braces, that beneficiaries did not need and doctors did not prescribe, supported by fake physician orders. Medicare paid more than $3 million on those claims, the department said.
The department said Anzivino was listed as owner on Medicare enrollment paperwork and submitted false bank account documents. After learning the company's Medicare billing privileges would be revoked, he wired $1,494,938.09 in three transactions at a co-conspirator's direction, according to the department.
In 2024, the government seized about $353,768 from the company's bank account, the department said.
Anzivino is scheduled to be sentenced Jan. 21, 2027, and faces a maximum of 10 years in prison. A federal judge will determine the sentence. HHS-OIG and the FBI investigated the case.
